New RHS Track & Field Turf Project

Town of Vernon, Vernon Public Schools Celebrate Opening of New Track and Turf Field at Rockville High School ahead of Girls Soccer Game
Vernon, Connecticut – The Town of Vernon and the Vernon Public Schools will celebrate the completion of a new track and turf field at Rockville High School with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday night, September 10th, 2021, ahead of the first game to be played on the field – the Rockville High girls soccer team’s match against Windsor High School. A brief ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. The soccer game starts at 6:00 p.m.
Parents and students have been invited to celebrate the opening of the new track and field, which will be the home venue for several Rockville High teams. The track will also be open to the community for walking.
“Athletics are an important part of the educational experience that the Town of Vernon provides to its children,” Mayor Dan Champagne said. “This investment by taxpayers in a modern track and field will be a great venue for our athletic teams and another pleasant place for our residents to walk.”
Vernon Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joseph P. Macary said the new facility is something everyone in Vernon can appreciate and enjoy.
“This field is going to bring a renewed sense of pride to our schools and community,” Dr. Macary said. “Many of our sports teams – lacrosse, soccer, football, track and field – are going to use it, along with our band. And it is going to be open to the community so people can use the track to exercise.”
In the spring, Vernon voters approved spending $1.5 million to replace the track and field at Rockville High with this new turn field and all-weather track. Work was carried out during the summer.
